Licensed Mental Health Counselor | Trauma Specialist | Faith-Grounded Clinician
Welcome, and thank you for being here. My name is Barbara Sosa, and I’m a licensed mental health counselor based in Florida. For over a decade, I’ve been supporting adolescents and adults in navigating the challenges of emotional and psychological distress. My experience spans schools, crisis centers, and community mental health—each setting enriching my understanding of how deeply our life experiences shape our mental health.
My journey into counseling began long before I earned my professional credentials. I grew up in a small town in southeastern Cuba, where I was often the listening ear and trusted friend among peers—someone who naturally sat beside others as they worked through emotional ups and downs. That early sense of purpose only deepened as I took on roles as a public school teacher and later a school counselor. It was there that I witnessed firsthand how family conflict, trauma, low self-worth, and invalidating environments could stand in the way of learning, growth, and emotional well-being. That realization fueled my decision to become a therapist.

During my graduate training, I completed clinical internships at Gracepoint Wellness (Adult Crisis Center) in Tampa and Bay Area Behavioral Services in Brandon. Those formative years gave me the privilege of serving diverse populations, including individuals from historically marginalized communities, and addressing a wide spectrum of mental health concerns.
Today, I specialize in trauma care, grief and loss, and the deep emotional healing of inner child wounds related to neglect, abuse (verbal, physical, or sexual), and attachment injuries. I am a certified trauma therapist and trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), a powerful treatment approach for trauma recovery. I also work with clients managing co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, panic, anger issues, and relationship conflicts.
A Bit More About Me:
Outside the therapy room, I’m a lifelong learner and creative spirit. I love reading, spending time with loved ones, and practicing traditional crafts like soap and candle making, knitting, and cross-stitching. On Sundays, you’ll often find me teaching Bible classes to pre-teens at my local Evangelical church.
My Christian faith is the foundation of who I am—it influences how I live, how I relate to others, and how I support healing as a counselor. That said, I welcome clients from all walks of life, backgrounds, and belief systems. My goal is always to make caring, ethical, and professional choices that best support each client and their unique journey

What You Can Expect in Therapy
Clients who work with me often describe my approach as warm, engaged, and insightful. I offer a calm and nonjudgmental space where you can feel safe to explore painful thoughts and emotions while also being gently challenged to grow. Sometimes we need someone to sit with us in the struggle; other times we need a nudge toward change—and I’m comfortable doing both.
Our first few sessions will be devoted to understanding your story in depth. I gather detailed information about your history, symptoms, and relationships so that together we can build a treatment plan with clear, measurable goals. Initially, sessions may take place weekly, and as you experience progress, we can adjust the frequency to match your needs and comfort.
